DG Research & Policy Cell

Institutionalizing evidence-based police policy and practice through action research and analytical innovation

The Madhya Pradesh Police, through the Training Branch and the MP Police Academy, has initiated the concept of evidence-based police policy and practice, which requires institutionalization of action-based research and analytical approaches in practice and innovations. The DG Research and Policy Cell was established in the police headquarters with a mandate to promote, support, and institutionalize research-driven policy development and evidence-based policing practices.

History of DG Research & Policy Cell

Establishment

The DG Research and Policy Cell was established as a pioneering initiative by the Madhya Pradesh Police to bridge the gap between research and practical policing. Recognizing the need for evidence-based decision-making, the MP Police leadership created this specialized unit to support strategic planning and policy development.

The cell operates from the Police Headquarters and works in close coordination with PARIMAL Research Society, the Madhya Pradesh Police Academy, and various research institutions to promote a culture of evidence-based policing.

Evolution

Over the years, the DG Research and Policy Cell has evolved from a conceptual framework to a fully operational research and policy development unit. It has successfully integrated research methodologies into police training, operations, and strategic planning.

The cell has been instrumental in initiating and supporting numerous research projects, policy reviews, and innovative practices that have significantly improved policing effectiveness and community relations in Madhya Pradesh.
